Office Partitions – Getting Several Rooms From One Space

Office partitions have become the standard in most offices. The trend toward open office space being divided using office partitions really became popular in the nineteen eighties.

What Are Office Partitions?

Office partitions are essentially room dividers. Usually a large open space will be set up with office partitions to create different office spaces. Office partitions are used to create the much favored cubicle that so few employees are fond of and so many employers are fond of. Office partitions are typically around five or six feet high and are portable, they can be moved from space to space, they usually snap together and are interchangeable.

Types of Office Partitions

There are many different types of office partitions, most are constructed of fabric with metal frames. The fabrics will vary from model to model. Some officer partitions have added built in’s like filing cabinet systems and desks. Some office partitions are more like mobile prefab offices than just simply a way to divide space. These modular office partitions have desks, filing cabinets, shelving and other amenities that are used in an office space. Office partitions are usually expandable and can be easily interchangeable.

Benefits of Office Partitions

Office partitions are a great way for a company to expand without having to move into a larger space. They are usually somewhat sound proof. They are great for team type of structure. They allow easy access to employees and supervisors. They also allow a certain amount of monitoring to be done by the employer. Office partitions are also beneficial because they are cost effective and mobile, easily restructuring the office in support of reorganization attempts.

Downfalls of Office Partitions

Unfortunately some office partitions are flimsy and are not well constructed, which can be a problem with lifespan. There is a lot less privacy for office employees in an environment where there are office partitions instead of offices. Office partitions are constructed to be sound proof but still the sound carries from one cubicle to another can be distracting when two people are simultaneously on the phone. Not having the option of a door also can be a distraction when people pass by the cubicle. Easy access to other peoples cubicles can also be a problem if something goes missing or if a file is taken and not returned.

Office partitions are a great way to make the most of the space that is available, they are also an inexpensive alternative to expanding space and making the space that is already existing  more efficient.  There are some down sides to using partitions but they can be overcome with proper planning.
